Blue sky, blue water.
Waimanalo Beach, I like this place. It’s on the east side of Oahu at the midpoint between Kailua and Hanauma Bay. Even though it’s fairly close to town, there’s no direct route to drive here. You have to drive around the mountains. This little inconvenience keeps this beach less crowded than most other beaches on this side of the island. It seems to have the best of everything. The water is clean, the sand is soft, the scenery is gorgeous and there are fun waves to body surf on.
We spent the weekend here at a beach house for a friend’s birthday. Some serious relaxation occurred.
I love beach access paths. It’s always a tiny little path in between homes that block the view of the ocean. And at the end of the path, you see this bright blue sliver of ocean calling you.
And now, the beach.
Here’s the crew getting some sun. Facebook updates today have reported that some may have gotten too much sun or had insufficiently applied sun block.
Opposite the beach are the Koolau Mountains. So, the backdrop for this place is amazing either way you look.
Here’s the view from our lanai. Not the beach, but still…it’s awesome.

Public access is one of the best things about Hawaii! The beach is for the people, not landowners who happen to have houses built on the beach! :-)

Hi David,
Thank you for this blog – it’s beautiful! I’m wondering, when one visits a beach like this, where do you park?
Thanks,
Kristine

Hey so this beach actually has plenty of parking. It’s the beach at Waimanalo Beach Park. Here’s the link to it on a map.
The parking lot closes early though…around 7 or 8pm I think.

One of my favorite beaches, seems like mostly locals a majority of the time. And very few at that.
Definitely need to keep a keen eye for man-o-wars though.
Have you ever taken notice to the amazing tiki house on this street? incredible!
DavidChat says,
Yep, that house is super cool. I’ve been lucky with the man-o-wars. Lucky they just float around so you can swim around them.

Hi, is this the beach where Lost was filmed?
