About Unreal Hawaii

Unreal Hawaii is a photoblog run by David Chatsuthiphan. It was launched in June of 2010 as a way to share my experiences with anyone interested in Hawaii.

I moved to Hawaii from California in 2007. For the first two years I lived here, I spent my free time learning how to surf and hanging out in the city. Somehow, I got introduced to hiking and started exploring the islands. There were many times when I found myself at the top of a mountain, or at a secluded beach, thinking to myself over and over “this is unreal.” These photos and this blog is an attempt to document and recreate those moments for you.

The most common question I get asked is, “What kind of camera do you use?” Well, when I started the blog I was shooting with a high-end point and shoot camera called the Panasonic Lumix LX3. As I learned more about photography and became more passionate about it, I got my hands on a dSLR. Most of my photos now are from my Nikon d90. The lens I use 90% of the time is an ultra wide angle Tokina 11-16 f2.8.

I’m not always outdoors. Monday through Friday, I am a professional user experience designer and coder for a digital agency based in Honolulu. I design websites and user interfaces for web based applications. On the weekends, I try to get outdoors and do something active.

Thanks for dropping by and don’t be shy about leaving a comment.
